The Ocean Blue 9m93rs Touring

Many Ninemeister clients desire a Porsche that is visually unique and different from the original factory design. For others keeping the car looking very close indeed to the original Porsche silhouette comes high on the list of objectives. It’s what lies beneath that is important to them. This 9m93rs Touring project is one of those understated projects.

The owner is based in the Far East and wished to create a visually conservative Porsche 911, with his perfect dynamic specification. The concept he agreed on with Ninemeister was to create a perfect, standard looking 993 C2S, with 993RS underpinnings and performance. Plus a little added Ninemeister craftsmanship.

The classic outline of the 993 Carrera C2S.

The base Porsche 993 was stripped back to the bare metal, then throughly overhauled for corosion. The sunroof was deleted by replacing it with an entire Porsche factory roof skin component. Following that, the Ninemeister 9mRS chassis package was installed. Developed in house by the Ninemiester team, this gives the full complement of RS chassis improvements, plus some 9m elements engineered in house to further improve the chassis.

This includes 9m93rs front suspension uprights and the Ninemeister Stiff Axle Kit. Bilstein PSS10 dampers and springs were specified and the front brakes were upgraded to 993RS specification.

The engine specification was designed to create a highly responsive unit that had many elements of the 993RS feel, with added mid range power and torque. To achieve this, the Ninemeister 3.8 high torque engine was built and installed, along with a 9mrs lightweight flywheel, 9m limited slip differential and RS gearshift mechanism.

What lies beneath. The C2S outline conceals the Ninemeister technical work

For the exterior finish, the car was painted in the Ninemeister paint and body department in Porsche Ocean Blue. Inside the car is principally Porsche 993 Exclusive Pack trim, with hard back standard Porsche sports seats. The instruments were refurbished to 9m specification and the audio system now has the 9m speaker package installed.

The finished car does look in many ways like a very nicely restored and refurbished, standard Porsche 993 C2S. And that was the owner’s principal objective visually. The magic happens away from public view, beneath the immaculate Ocean Blue paintwork, where the beating heart is a carefully co-ordinated series of studied improvements that optimised this Porsche 993 to be exactly the Porsche he wished to enjoy whenever he slides behind the wheel of his own, perfect, Ninemeister built Porsche 911.

It is far more that simply an immaculate Carrera C2S. More even than a 993RS in disguise. This 9m93rs Touring is all of those elements, and then some more.

The Green 2.7RS Homage Project

It all started with how the doors closed. The owner of the lovely Green 911 came to Ninemeister with a simple request. The doors didn’t seem to be aligned that well and perhaps they needed some adjustment.

A straight forward task. It would take a few hours work for the Ninemeister technicians to fix what can be an annoying characteristic of Porsche 911 doors if you don’t understand how to set them correctly. That simple task turned into a much longer project that resulted in the car we see here. A completely rebuilt car which bears little resemblance to the original Porsche 911 that first came to Ninemiester that day.

A little investigative work in the workshops quickly led to the realisation that this wasn’t the first time that this Porsche 911 had been ‘adjusted’. The car showed signs of various work over the previous decades and, like many older air cooled 911’s, was now really in need of something a little more thorough that a simple door adjustment.

To the owner’s credit, once the bad news was overcome, he enthusiastically bought into the idea of giving his 911 a rebirth as an accurate homage to the silhouette of the 2.7RS.

The body shell was stripped back to the bare metal and the various areas of corrosion that can hide unseen in a 911 bodyshell were all dealt with. The owner’s objective was to create the outline of a car he had always wanted, the 2.7RS, combined with the driveline of a later 911SC. Plus a few Ninemeister enhancements.

Authenticity was important, so genuine, original RS body panels were sourced for the car to undertake a full body restoration including steel wings, hood, quarter panels, inner wings, front panel, sills, inner sills, kidney bowls, etc. In the process, the shell was seam welded to 9m11RS specification and the sunroof was deleted with the use of an original factory roof panel.

Suspension was all new Bilstein Club Sport specification, with bushes and engine mounts all renewed. The 3.0 litre engine was checked and rebuilt with a number of Ninemeister improvements which, together with the two into one exhaust gave a power output of 225 bhp.

When it came to trim and paintwork, there are several elements that simply seem to work each time with the 911, so why break the rules?

A set of rare and original Fuchs alloy wheels were fitted with Sport Contact tyres was complemented with the essential Duck Tail spoiler. Inside, the charcoal interior has RS door cards and hardware, a half leather interior, plus detailed instruments in a period style and an essential Momo Prototipo steering wheel. A centre console delete gives the complete period look.

A nod to modern living came in the form of the electric windows, plus a Porsche Classic DAB radio and navigation with Bluetooth connectivity. The classic Porsche feel was retained however, with the original 915 gearbox being rebuilt to 9m specification to ensure the best performance from the shift.

A lightweight flywheel and clutch provide the perfect response on those heel and toe downshifts.

The final paintwork finish is a custom shade of Birch Green, created in house by the Ninemeister paintwork specialists, darker than Charteusse and not as vivid as other shades. The entire car came together to deliver what is in effect a brand new car. The owner’s comment after a week of driving it?

“Now THAT is what an 911SC should really drive like.”

The Sapphire Car

The Sapphire Car will soon be heading to the open countryside of Northumberland, on the border of Northern England and Scotland. The spectacular, rugged countryside and winding, open roads will be this car’s new home. Built to be driven, frequently and quickly, we thought you might like to hear from the owner and enjoy a quick chat about his dreams of the Sapphire Car and what motivated him to embark on the journey with Ninemeister to create his idea of the perfect 911.

“I wanted a car that looked like my old 2.7RS, yet drove more like my 964RS.”

The owner of The Sapphire Car has long experience of Porsche 911 ownership. He has, in fact, owned almost all of the most iconic and collectable RS 911s across the decades, including 2.7RS, 964RS, GT2 and so on. All the way to the latest 991 that he recently sold.

The big difference is that he owned all of these Porsches in period, at a time when they were simply another option in the brochure. Unlike the current owner of a collectable RS Porsche who often buys for the investment potential, he drove them regularly, long before they became such a valuable commodity.

Fast forward several decades and The Owner is a little disenchanted with the latest digital cars that are being produced by car manufacturers worldwide.

He wanted a new Porsche 911, yet really wished to re-create the engaging and immersive feeling of driving an analogue 911, updated with modern build technologies and other enhancements to make his car totally reliable and an engaging drive. A car capable of being used every day, should he choose to.

“I talked with several specialist 911 builders before I decided on 9m. While they were all very good and without a doubt would have created a great car for me, the chat I had with Colin sealed my decision. He understood what I wanted, how I wanted the car to drive and feel like. That was the most important part for me. I don’t drive on track, I’m not a racer, however I wanted a car that felt like my old 964RS, with perhaps a little more compliance for regular road driving.”

Body and Style

The Sapphire Car is the result of the collaboration between the team here at 9m and the owner’s dreams and wishes. The bare Porsche 911 shell of the base car was stripped and engineered to create the style and period feel that owner had in mind. The ST body conversion, including steel wings, hood, quarter panels and rear arches were all use to create the classic 911 silhouette. The Owner also chose the option of a sunroof delete.

Classic shape of the ST wide body 911

Once the the wide body was complete, the classic look was completed with the addition of deep dish Fuchs style alloy wheels, made possible by a bespoke 9m narrow track rear axle modification to create the perfect offset.

Some 9m clients like to carry through the period look to the interior, however in this case, the decision was a subdued charcoal black leather interior with 9mRS door cards and 993RS door pulls. 964 seats were the preferred option, re-trimmed in new Charcoal leather. The principal reference to an earlier 911 is the removal of the centre console, with the switches repositioned to a discrete panel below the main instruments.

The final touches to the interior included refurbished instrument gauges with the 9m logo, plus an 8,000 rpm tachometer.

The Heart of the Sapphire Car

Of course the flat six engine is the heart of every 9m creation and there are a great many options to choose from. For many owners, a standard engine, optimised to run as efficiently as possible is the perfect choice. Other clients aspire to more power and a variety of different specifications, depending upon whether the car will be road use, track use or a combination of the two.

After some consideration, The Owner choose a high torque 3.8 litre engine build, with billet cylinder heads, a lightweight flywheel and RS engine and gearbox mounts. Transmission is a standard 5 speed gearbox, with a limited slip differential to ensure the best traction from the torque of the engine.

The finishing touch was a bespoke dual outlet exhaust with the minimum of silencing. This combination of glorious exhaust tone and high torque engine should be the perfect instrument for dealing with troublesome holiday traffic on the B Roads of Northumberland.

We admire his choices.

Chassis and Suspension

To deal with the undulating roads, KW Suspension was specified, with geometry set for fast road use. Connecting the driver to the car, a Momo Prototipo wheel trimmed in black leather was added, together with a bespoke RS gearshifter modification created in house by 9m to ensure the perfect gearshift precision.

So if you live in the North of England or the rolling Scottish Border countryside, listen out for the distinctive tone of a flat six enjoying some exercise. There’s a good chance it could be this unique car, it’s owner enjoying his creation and the analogue feel of a true Porsche 911.

The White 9m93 Speedster S

Arpad came to 9m with a desire for his own Porsche 993 Speedster. This is the result, a car he calls Speedy White, a Porsche created to his specification and Number Three in the series of 9m93 Speedster S cars we have created for owners across the world.

Based in Hungary, Arpad had already secured a donor car, a standard 993 Cabriolet with an extremely low mileage. The car had, however, been standing dormant for well over a year, so as well as the bespoke conversion to Speedster specification and associated upgrades, we also spent time re-comissioning the base car.

Speedy White is a six speed manual, Varioram car originally built to EU specification in left hand drive. Arpad remained in touch with us throughout the months spanning the creation of his car, as the process of stripping the 993, then converting the Porsche to Speedster specification and also to wide body Turbo look ’S’ specification, with the wider rear arches, was undertaken.

This time consuming and precise process also involves adding significant strengthening to the shell, as we firmly believe that the wider track and tyres will inevitably add more cornering force.

Above all, we create each 9m93 Speedster S to drive identically to a coupe model.

Each car we create in this series has it’s own, unique specification. For Arpad’s car, there’s the  benefit of a Turbo brake upgrade and revised KW Variant 3 suspension, while he chose to keep the Varioram engine as standard.

Each time we hand over a 9m Porsche to it’s owner, we are reminded of the passion that we all share for the air cooled 911. The Porsche family is quite literally global, the creation of the Number 3 car was followed widely online. 9m owners are similarly close.

The Number Two car lives in the USA. It’s owner JP, commissioned the car in Arena Red. It’s a car he calls Speed Arena. When he heard of Aprad’s project, JP took the trouble to fly in from California to be with us when Arpad collected his car from the UK.

The two 9m93 Speedster S owners then enjoyed a pan European road trip, taking time to enjoy the Porsche museum in Stuttgart, en route to the car’s home in Hungary.
Arpad asked the Porsche Museum staff for permission to park outside of the main entrance for the photos you see here.

9m93 Speedster S at the Porsche Museum, Stuttgart

Such was the interest in the Speedster S, he had to wait some time for the crowds to disperse before he was able to shoot.

Interest in any of the 9m93 Speedster S cars we have created is simply huge whenever they are seen in public. The team at 9m are proud to have created five of this bespoke cars for owners across the world.

With the Porsche factory bringing back the Speedster style again in the new 2019 Porsches, we are once again being asked by air cooled owners if it is possible to have a 993 Speedster S created.

If you would like to discuss commissioning a Speedster S, we would love to talk to you about your ideas on creating your own perfect 9m Porsche.
